Swingmatizm!

Swingmatism! plays Jazz from Swing to Bop and Beyond. They modernize Swing and are especially influenced by the sounds of Count Basie’s Band Tenor Giant Lester “Pres.” Young (also the Forefather of “Cool” Jazz.) They also specialize in Mainstream Modern Jazz, aka the Bebop of Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie, Latin Jazz, Bossa Nova, and Post Bop, especially the Modal approach pioneered by John Coltrane and Miles Davis.

Swingmatizm is comprised of some of the best veteran jazz performers in the state of Maine. Several of them are on the faculty of the University of Maine Music Department. Along with their fine performances Jay Bregman a scholar and jazz historian as well as an excellent tenor Sax man will inform the audience about the context of many of the songs that will be perfromed.
