Ryu & Tom – Folk meets Classical

Tokyo meets Maine meets Cowboy meets Bach. Ryu & Tom are a cross-genre duo featuring Ryu from Tokyo and Tom from Bangor Maine. They are both classically trained but couldn’t keep themselves from mixing the genres that they love. Their repertoire runs the gamut. From old Japanese folk songs to western cowboy songs. From 17th century classical music to anime songs. From rock music to Celtic tunes. You name it, they will play and Ryu will dance with her fiddle while Tom holds the fort.

The duo has been internationally performing and travelling together for over 5 years, and has spent much time on the road to playing in the contiguous United States. Most recently, the duo spent 14 months in Tokyo, where they frequently performed with a theatre company named ‘Koyaza’. After their cross-country trip and international move to Japan performing all over the country, they are back in the US.
