Roochie Toochie – Surry Celebrates Maine 200

Roochie Toochie & The Ragtime Shepherd Kings

A Top Notch Rag Tag Novelty String Band Performing Funny & Obscure Tunes From the Olden Days!

Brings You…

A visually exciting, sonically breathtaking night of fun featuring old sheet music, Maine history and humor, and good old fashioned entertainment!

The early 20th century was the first major period of music publishing in the United States, and Maine has a rich history as both the subject of these songs and as a minor hotbed for entrepreneurs in the commercial music business. Drawing on a range of archival collections, Roochie Toochie will perform selections of songs written in and about Maine, bringing the state’s long-forgotten melodious past to life!

After forming in 2013 to fulfill their shared dream of making an entire album on wax cylinder, Roochie Toochie transformed their recorded repertoire of antique novelty tunes into a fantastic stage show that puts a capital “S” in showmanship. When you see the Ragtime Shepherd Kings you’ll witness: fancy fiddling, dueling Hawaiian guitars, ukulele wizardry, flashy lap-steel guitar, a menagerie of toy instruments, vocal harmonies that sound as if they were polished by hand, a musical pig “Porkestra”, scandalous dancing–and that’s just the intermission!

This show is made possible by a grant from the Maine Bicentennial Commission. It’s fun for all ages—and it’s sure to be the hit of the season—so don’t miss out!
