Phillip Silver is an internationally acclaimed solo and collaborative artist. The Frankfurter Rundschau described his playing as “virtuosic,” Haaretz commented upon his “…superb technical ability that enthralled the audience with melody, lyricism and poetry,” while the Boston Globe called him “an international collaborative pianist of the first rank,” and the Jerusalem Post described him as “a superb accompanist whose work is marked by sensitivity, felicity of style and an inborn musicianship which unerringly directs him to the most appropriate musical gesture.”
Phillip has performed in many of the world’s leading concert halls including the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room and Wigmore Hall in London, the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow, Scotland, the Alte Oper in Frankfurt, Germany, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, and the Henry Crown Theater in Jerusalem.
Over the course of his career he has performed with many distinguished artists including Denes Zsigmondy, Jian Wang, Elmar Oliveira, Albert Markov and Alexander Markov. Phillip has also been a member of the Van Leer Chamber Players in Jerusalem, the Rachmaninov Trio in the UK, and the Silver Duo, a long established ensemble with his wife, cellist Noreen Silver.
Noreen Silver has been described by Michael Tumelty in the Glasgow Herald as being “an extraordinarily soulful player” who “demonstrates an uncommon depth of feeling and imagination.” She was born in Glasgow and studied at the Royal College of Music in London, then subsequently in Geneva with Pierre Fournier, and the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Mass.While studying at NEC she met her husband, Phillip Silver, and together they formed the Silver Duo. With the Duo, and as a member of the Van Leer Trio, Noreen has performed in the UK, USA, Israel, Sweden, Czech Republic, Germany, France and Belgium, and has broadcast frequently for the BBC and other national radio stations. Noreen has been on the faculties of Strathclyde University and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, Scotland. She has also been a member of the Boston Opera Orchestra, Northwest Chamber Players, and the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra.
Richard Hsu is an active soloist and chamber musician. Richard has performed with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, the Clarion Society, Early Music New York, the New York State Baroque Ensemble, American Classical Orchestra and Concert Royal. He was formerly Associate Concertmaster of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. He performed as soloist and concertmaster with the Moscow Ballet at the Spoleto Festival USA. He holds a bachelor’s degree and performer diploma in Violin Performance from Indiana University School of Music and furthered his studies at Manhattan School of Music. He currently teaches violin and chamber music in Ellsworth and Bangor. He performs with his wife Heidi Powell in BOOM, the Baroque Orchestra of Maine.
